THE CONSCIENCE PILATE 2-in-1: Movie Scene Street & Sunday Refugees

2-CD set featuring 34 tracks in total (plus one remix!) straight out of the mid 90's Toronto indie scene. The Conscience Pilate brought glamour and glitter, style and substance, to the Toronto club underground starting in 1995 with the release of a 12" single, "never for you". It was followed by "mistake no. 6", leading up to the release of their debut EP "Living in a Movie Street" in the Spring of '96.

"Living in a Movie Street", long out of print, was named Canadian indie record of the year by Access Magazine but besides being media darlings, the image-conscious Conscience Pilate boys were also fan favourites, drawing crowds from the music and fashion worlds to their happenings. A Conscience Pilate gig wasn't just another concert, it was a velvet-lined event, a night out to remember. They were selling out clubs one after another, and hailed by the usual industry suspects as the next big thing.

'Twas not to be, however. Whatever tragic flaws undermined them is not what concerns us however. We'd rather listen to the music. After "Living in a Movie Scene" came some line-up changes, before the boys recorded "Sunday Refugees". Years later, an European label called Guru Records re-packaged both these records with demos, live tracks, and additional singles, including their very last one, "Fires of the Heart". By that point, singer Neil Leyton was the only original member left, and decided to call a spade a spade: The Conscience Pilate was no more after the departure of founding bassist, Edward Pond.
